District 742 Local Education Activities Foundation Announces Fall Activities and Fund-A-Need Grants

LEAF Announces a Total of $32,896 in Fall 2016 Grants Awards
St. Cloud, MN – The District 742 Local Education & Activities Foundation announced the awarding of $20,212 during its fall Activities Funds granting cycle and an additional grant of $12,684 for Mobile Hot Spots to provide internet access to needy students.  Each year, LEAF awards supplemental funding to academic, activities, arts and athletic programming.  Teachers, coaches and advisers submit grant applications for special projects twice during the academic year.  Academic Grants are awarded each March.  Grants awarded this fall included funds for diverse projects including:

Activities Fund Grants
1.    $1,000.00     Tech/Apollo Boys Hockey uniforms
2.    $2,327.00     Tech/Apollo/Cathedral Robotics Club supplies and equipment
3.    $500.00        Apollo High School Rock Climbing Club equipment and transportation
4.    $750.00        Apollo High School Weightroom equipment
5.    $1,000.00     Apollo High School Wrestling uniforms
6.    $1,200.00     Apollo High School Gymnastics equipment
7.    $2,500.00     Apollo High School Girls Basketball uniforms
8.    $500.00        North Junior High Student Leadership Council
9.    $700.00        North Junior High Eagles Act Project Supplies
10.  $300.00        North Junior High Art Club supplies
11.  $500.00        North Junior High Arts Contest supplies
12.  $400.00        McKinley ALC Service Project expenses
13.  $750.00        McKinley ALC Entrepreneurship Camp
14.  $1,030.00     Tech High School Robotics Club supplies
15.  $1,000.00     Tech High School Nordic Ski Team uniforms
16.  $1,000.00     Tech High School Girls/Boys Basketball shooting machine
17.  $1,000.00     Tech High School Health Occupations Leadership Conferences
18.  $1,000,00     Tech High School Dance Team costumes
19.  $1,875.00     District-wide Disadvantaged Youth activities participation expenses
20.  $280.00        Talahi Elementary Battle of the Books expenses
21.  $600.00        Contingency Grant to District Talent Development/Elementary Knowledge Bowl

In addition, a grant of $12,684.50 will be given to North & South Junior High Schools to purchase mobile hot spots that will provide internet access at home for needy students.

The District 742 Local Education & Activities Foundation (LEAF) was founded in 1993 as a fully independent, non-profit organization for the purpose of promoting and enhancing school-based, extra-curricular activities and academic opportunities in District 742 Public Schools. LEAF’s endowment fund provides supplemental funding for academic, activities, arts and athletic programming in the district’s schools. Since 1996 LEAF has been able to contribute $1,357,877 to projects in District 742.
