LEAF Receives Grants to Support Homeless Students

April 27, 2020

LEAF Receives $10,000 to Support Students Experiencing Homelessness.

The District 742 Local Education & Activities Foundation (LEAF) announced that it has received two $5,000 grants in support of District 742 homeless youth and their families. The grants have been made through the support of the Central Minnesota Community Foundation COVID-19 Response Fund and from the United Way of Central Minnesota COVID Relief Fund.

Every day, students experiencing homelessness face the daunting task of trying to focus on a quality education while worrying about the basic needs of reliable food, clothing and shelter.  This is especially true during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to supporting District 742 academic, activities, arts and athletic programs, since 2014, LEAF has supported students and their families experiencing homelessness while attending District 742 schools.

LEAF continues to raise money for the Homeless Student Services Fund, which provides needed crisis shelter, clothing, food, and other assistance for District 742 students. Donors who wish to contribute can make their tax-deductible contribution online by clicking here or send a check, made out to “LEAF” to PO Box 1132, St. Cloud, MN 56302.  Donations may also be made by texting 52014 with the message @LEAF #helphomelesskids.

A committee, which works with the District 742 Transitional Student Services Department and homeless student social workers provides oversight of the fund expenditures.
