LEAF 742 Spreads Joy and Literacy at Community Event

May 21, 2025

On Saturday, May 17th, LEAF 742 had the privilege of co-sponsoring a vibrant community event that brought together over 1,500 people for a day filled with fun, connection, and celebration. It was a beautiful reminder of the power of community engagement—and the joy of a good book and a cool treat on a not-so-warm May day in Minnesota!

As part of the festivities, our team handed out free ice cream to attendees, spreading smiles to families, children, and educators alike. The refreshing treats were a huge hit, honing in on that sense of celebration while sparking conversations and building community spirit. There was so much to celebrate, including the passing of the Apollo High School referendum and our Superintendent, Dr. Putnam, receiving the Superintendent of the Year award from MASA (MN Association of School Administrators)

A highlight of the day was the presence of our beloved PAKRAT Roll and Read bus, which rolled onto the scene as a mobile beacon of literacy. We were thrilled to have 134 students step aboard and select a free book to take home. For many, it was not just a book—it was an adventure waiting to unfold, and a keepsake from a day they’ll remember.

At LEAF 742, we believe that access to books and learning opportunities should be a joyful, shared experience. Events like this allow us to connect with families in meaningful ways while supporting lifelong literacy and learning for all.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who stopped by, volunteered, or helped make the day a success. Together, we’re building a stronger, more connected community—one page, one scoop, and one smile at a time.
