Annual Tech Athletics and Apollo Activities Golf Scrambles

July 29, 2024

The Apollo and Tech scrambles focus on students and are the largest single fundraising event for the student activities program.

Tech Tiger Athletics Golf Scramble

In 2008, a group of Tech High School supporters approached LEAF with the idea to host a golf scramble, similar to the MAPS (Metro Activities Partnership of Schools) golf scramble that had been hosted by LEAF for several years.  LEAF was quick to accept the request and the Tech Tiger Golf Scramble was born!

Apollo and Tech High School golf scrambles. With almost 100 years of history at St. Cloud Tech High School, it is not surprising that alumni, teachers, coaches and community members come out each summer to support Tech students during the Tiger Scramble Golf Tournament.  Celebrating the 16th annual fundraiser on Friday, August 9, 2024, the Tiger Scramble, sponsored by Schluchter Financial Advisors, welcomes 150 participants who come together to show their commitment to Tech Athletics and the importance of student involvement.  This event is held at the Wapicada Golf Club and the focus for the day is very simple: support Tech students and have fun while doing it.

Proceeds from this event are divided between current Tech needs and the LEAF Tech Athletics Endowment Fund, which provides annual grants to Tech athletics. The Tiger golf scramble has been a great success and heading into the 16th annual scramble here is a list of ways the scramble has supported Tech Athletics after expenses of the scramble have been paid:

$36,031.02       Direct grants to programs from on-course contests

$74,783.93       Direct grants to the Tech Athletic Program from 50% of the net proceeds of the scramble

$122,774.93     Total amount raised for the LEAF Tech Athletics Legacy Fund

$42,075.00       Total grants from the Legacy Fund to Tech athletic programs

$152,889.95     Total 15-year direct funds for Tech athletic programs (Not counting endowed Legacy Funds)

The 16th Annual Tech Athletics Golf Scramble is on Friday, August 9, at Wapicada Golf Club.

John Lieser Apollo Activities Golf Scramble

In 2014, the Apollo High School activities program requested to start a golf scramble, similar to the Tiger scramble.

This event is a fundraiser for the Apollo Activities Program and is focused on fun and camaraderie with others who support Apollo activities.

The Apollo scramble is named in honor of John Lieser, Apollo’s only golf coach in history!  John remains a committee member and works hard to support all Apollo activities through his dedication to the scramble. Participants include former students, past and present teachers/coaches, Apollo supporters and community members. The John Lieser Apollo Activities Scramble allows you to create 4 or 5-person teams with a shotgun start at 12:00 Noon. As with the Tech athletics scramble, current Apollo activities teams provide unique contests on selected holes.

The cost of each participant is only $100 which includes 18 holes of golf, range balls, food and soft drinks/health drinks on the course, many individual contests, door prizes, and a special social following golf. All proceeds from this fundraiser are divided between an endowment for Apollo Activities (LEAF Foundation) and funding immediate needs within the Activities area. Be a Team Captain and find three/four friends to come out and have a great day while supporting a worthy cause! If you would prefer, the committee will assign you to a team, just return the registration form. Those who are not able to join the golf tournament are encouraged to come out for the evening social to create new memories with old friends. The cost of the social only is $25.

Although newer, the Apollo golf scramble has been very successful and heading into the 10th annual scramble here is a list of ways the scramble has supported Apollo Activities after expenses of the scramble have been paid:

$14,729.64       Direct grants to programs from on-course contests

$46,980.49       Direct grants to the Apollo Activities Program from 50% of the net proceeds of the scramble

$44,056.28       Total amount raised for the LEAF Apollo Activities Legacy Fund

$11,995.00       Total grants from the Legacy Fund to Apollo activities programs

$73,705.13       Total 9-year direct funds for Apollo activities programs (Not counting endowed Legacy Funds)

Mark your calendars for the 10th Annual John Lieser Apollo Activities Golf Scramble & Social, to be held at the Territory Course on Monday, July 29, 2024!  If you would like to be a part of this growing Apollo tradition as a participant or sponsor, please do not hesitate to contact Apollo activities director, Karl Heine:  karl.heine@isd742.org.
