LEAF Grant strengthens family bonds

September 17, 2024

Last school year, Ms. Bogel, a teacher at Oak Hill elementary school, applied for a LEAF grant to purchase a classroom set of ukuleles. She received the grant, purchased the instruments and started using them right away! One of the 4th grade music students, Livia, told her mom that Ms. Bogel made it fun and exciting to play – Livy loved practicing with her partner and fell in love with the instrument.

After the ukulele unit, Livy asked her mom if she could buy her very own ukulele so she could continue to play at home. Turns out, Livy’s uncle had a history of fixing up old ukuleles and guitars so they reached out to him to see iff he had one Livy could try.

Livy’s uncle ended up finding a ukulele that he could fix up for Livy. Ever since receiving the refurbished instrument from her uncle, Livy has been practicing with YouTube and is even starting lessons this Fall!

“We are grateful for LEAF that she got this opportunity to try a new instrument and made a lasting connection with a family member.” – Livy’s mom
