LEAF Announces $18,250 in Fall Adopt-a-Classroom Grants

November 9, 2014

The District 742 Local Education & Activities Foundation announced that it has awarded 73 classroom supply grants of $250 each as part of the 2014 LEAF Adopt a Classroom project.

The Adopt-A-Classroom project connects businesses and individuals to specific classrooms to help provide needed supplies that teachers and families usually have to purchase. Businesses or individuals can “adopt” a classroom by making a tax-deductable, $250 contribution for the needed supplies. A total of $18,250 was raised and granted for classroom supplies to 73 classrooms.

Parents and teachers spend hundreds of dollars to provide basic supplies for classroom use. From the ordinary, like permanent markers, pencils and notebooks to the more unique like sheet music, science kits, dry ice and snake food; teachers and parents of students often spend their own money to provide a quality educational experience.

While some classroom teachers or families can afford these expenditures, many cannot. LEAF works to help all students have the advantage of a quality classroom experience.

Businesses or individuals choose to adopt a specific classroom at a specific school, or make a $250 donation to LEAF and allow LEAF to choose a classroom. LEAF then informs the donor of the classroom they have adopted. The business or individual donor will receive a Certificate of Adoption that identifies the classroom they have adopted.
