District 742 School Board Special Election: Meet the Candidates and Make Your Plan to Vote

A special election is coming up for the St. Cloud Area School District 742 School Board, and local voters will have the chance to help shape the district’s future. One open seat will be filled in this November 4, 2025 election, and three community members have stepped forward as candidates.

This election will determine who serves a three-year term on the board through December 2028 — a key role in guiding decisions about budgets, programs, and priorities for students across our community.

Three candidates are running for this seat: Al Dahlgren, Gina Acevedo, and Peter Hamerlinck. Each brings a unique background and perspective to the race.

Acevedo, a healthcare professional and parent, centers her campaign on inclusion, belonging, and student success. She believes in creating safe, supportive environments where every student can thrive and feels represented in district decision-making.

Peter Hamerlinck school board candidate

Peter Hamerlinck

Hamerlinck, a real estate professional, previously served on the board from 2011–2014 and is seeking to return to the role. He points to his past governance experience and commitment to educational excellence as reasons voters should choose him.

🕓 How and When to Vote

Absentee (Early) Voting

Early voting began Friday, September 19, 2025.

  • Stearns, Benton, and Sherburne Counties:
    Vote absentee at the Stearns County Service Center, 3301 County Road 138, Waite Park. Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

    • Saturday, November 1: 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
    • Monday, November 3: until 5:00 p.m.

Election Day Voting

Election Day is Tuesday, November 4, 2025. Use Minnesota’s Polling Place Finder at mnvotes.gov to confirm your location, view a sample ballot, and check your registration status.
