Closing the Chapter on the PAKRAT Summer Book Bus
As fall arrives and students settle into their classrooms, we’re reflecting on another wonderful season of the PAKRAT Summer Book Bus. This traveling library has once again brought the joy of reading to children across District 742, keeping kids engaged and excited about books all summer long.
At the end of the season, volunteers from the St. Cloud chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma (DKG) International Society for Key Women Educators joined PAKRAT Coordinator Kammie to help “sunset” the program for the year. Together, they collected and organized books, packed supplies, and ensured everything was ready to be stored until next summer. DKG also gave LEAF a grant to purchase more books for our bilingual learners and is planning to adopt classrooms through LEAF’s Adopt a Classroom program again for the 5th year in a row!
These DKG volunteers—many of whom are retired educators—have a deep understanding of the power of reading. Their service reflects a lifelong commitment to supporting students and teachers, and we are so grateful for the time and care they devoted to this project.
Thanks to their efforts, and to the leadership of Kammie and District 742 staff, the PAKRAT Summer Book Bus is ready to roll again next year. Until then, we celebrate a successful season of sparking curiosity, building literacy skills, and sharing the love of books with kids across our community.
Thank you to the St. Cloud DKG International Society for Key Women Educators for your dedication—and to all the families and children who joined us on the bus this summer. We can’t wait to see you next year!
