The GRIT Award: Celebrating Hard Work, Resilience, and Innovation

Have you ever faced a challenge that seemed too tough to overcome? Maybe it was a tough math problem, learning a new sport, or even working through a difficult project. Everyone faces obstacles, but some people show incredible determination, keep pushing forward, and turn those challenges into opportunities for growth. That’s exactly what the GRIT Award is all about!

The Growth, Resilience, Innovation, and Talent (GRIT) Award is a special recognition for students who show persistence in the face of challenges, who grow and learn from their experiences, and who find creative ways to solve problems. This award celebrates those who don’t give up easily, who keep trying, and who constantly strive to improve. Whether it’s mastering a skill, helping others, or showing leadership, the GRIT Award honors the power of hard work and creativity.

Why does it matter?

Life isn’t always easy, and sometimes it’s not about being the fastest or smartest; it’s about how we respond to challenges. Students who show growth, resilience, and innovation are not only making themselves better but inspiring those around them to do the same. They are the ones who might fail, but then get back up, learn from their mistakes, and keep going until they succeed.

How do students earn a GRIT Award?

The GRIT Award is earned by demonstrating:

  • Growth: You’ve worked hard to learn and improve.
  • Resilience: You don’t give up when things get tough.
  • Innovation: You think outside the box and come up with creative solutions.
  • Talent: You show your unique strengths and abilities in everything you do.

The GRIT Award is a reminder that talent isn’t just about being born with special abilities; it’s about putting in the effort and using creativity to overcome challenges. It’s a celebration of the journey, not just the destination!

So far, winners of the GRIT Award have been celebrated at both Junior High Schools in District 742 – North and South. Here are some pictures from those special days!
