Hans was born in Lincoln, Nebraska and moved to St. Cloud with his family when he was 3 years old. Except for two years spent in Folsom, California, during his early teen years, he grew up in St. Cloud and graduated from Tech High School in 2020. During his time at Tech, he was involved in extra-curricular activities such as Knowledge Bowl, the Math Team, golf, and basketball. Hans was only five weeks into his freshman year at UCLA when he died from severe injuries due to a tragic fall on October 24, 2020. He was a “diamond in the rough” – a typical teenager on the outside but with many wonderful qualities on the inside. Hans was very musical, inquisitive, compassionate, inclusive, had the rare trait of never speaking ill of anyone else, had strong drive and determination to succeed, was unafraid, and had a gift for building community wherever he went. Hans loved learning and was thrilled to be going to the university of his dreams. He packed a lot of wonderful experiences and accomplishments into his 18 years of life. Hans will be greatly missed by so many, but left a great legacy and a huge number of memories for his community to treasure.
